Description

A Mindful Moment is a live, one-hour weekly talk show with a strong emphasis on living in the present moment. The show looks at life through the lens of mindfulness and creating space from within. Mindfulness often allows people to create better relationships with themselves and others. The inspiration of this show is from Dr. Aaron Cargile’s research Communication Studies course of Mindful Communication. The online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was a major inspiration for the show.

Format

The show will open with either a tone bar or singing bowl in order to announce the start of the program. Calm music will be played through or in the background. Each session will have its own piece of music. We will open with a mindful quote of the week and then move on to a short introduction of the guests and hosts. A guest or the hosts will be discussing our personal experience or providing information on a mindfulness topic. The topic of the week will be announced at the beginning of the show and talked about throughout. Some examples of shows could be: 1) Mind vs. Thought, 2) Mindful Eating, 3) The Body-Mind Connection. We will collaborate with the researcher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, (MBSR). The show will conclude with a ten minute guided meditation.

Audience

The show is targeting students or individuals who are seeking wholistic mindful practices. We are hoping to reach those open to creating space in the mind and body. Some examples of audiences might be: 1) People who are currently practicing mindfulness, 2) Those who are slightly aware and curious, 3) Those who are stressed out (almost everyone). Our show is relevant for almost any demographic including any who wants to create space, take a break, destress, or simply breathe.

Why should the show be on 22 West Radio?

In today's society, people are constantly distracted by media and the expectation of instant gratification. This constantly takes people out of the present moment. The show's goal is to bring people back into the present to help people live their lives more fully. We hope the show will inspire the audience to care for themselves so they are able to care for others.
